Refreshed Yaris 2016 Gets Bi-Tone Colour Treatment

I’m not sure how I missed it. The Yaris got itself an update and it wasn’t until noticing one of these beautiful editions on our showroom floor, that I realised it. It’s quite an eye-catching update. Bi-Tone colours!

The Yaris actually inherited the look from the new Aygo, which first debuted the aggressive X grille and bi-tone colour combos. Either way, I think it looks awesome! Luckily I had my Nikon Coolpix nearby, so I could capture a little of that red magic.

New Bi-Tone Red Yaris CVT

Hot ne?

The little Yaris has come a long way since it first surfaced in our shores back in 2006. At the time, it was replacing another legendary Toyota. The Conquest – Tazz! In its heyday Toyota moved 1,700 units of the Tazz monthly. It was one of the most practical and economical cars ever available in South Africa. (Aren’t all Toyota’s?)

Well the Yaris hit the deck running, earning the best-selling imported vehicle in 2006. I remember first seeing the Yaris in those days. It was unlike any other vehicle I’d seen. The distinctive compact shape and colours were hard to miss. And inside it was revolutionary, with the digital console positioned in the center of the dash.

A lot has happened since then. All the other manufacturers have joined the party, as they usually do with Toyota. And now you as a customer are spoilt for choice on the crowded B-Segment compact car market. But the latest Yaris upgrade propels the Yaris to the top of the line once again. The car is fully imported from Toyota’s plant in France. According to Toyota SA’s Glenn Crompton, Toyota has invested the equivalent of R1 billion, engineered a 1000 new parts and spent 576,000 man hours refining the 3rd generation Yaris.

Yaris Has Grown Up

Fair to say, Toyota’s little Yaris has grown up. It now has a distinctive European feel when you get inside. The dash, the radio, the leather-clad steering – all add to a classy experience, that goes beyond the norm in the segment. The multi-drive (CVT) version even has a neat paddle shift option, as you may notice in the pics.

Here is a quick rundown of the Yaris lineup:
