Rebirth of a Legend – Corolla 2014

1966 saw the birth of the very first Corolla (Crown of Flowers). Led by development leader, Tatsuo Hasegwa, the Corolla designers set out to design a car that would capture the hearts of the general public. 47 years, 11 generations, and 40 million units later, the Corolla has broken all records on the way to becoming the best-selling model of all time. I think the original designers of the Corolla, can rest at ease, that our hearts have indeed been captured.

2014 brings the 11th generation Corolla into our world with a bang. The launch of this latest model, introduces new dynamic exterior styling, premium interior finish, and the legendary Corolla reliability and quality. Join us as we explore this iconic car in more detail.

Exterior

Modern & elegant. It’s time to re-invent a legend. The iconic Corolla returns, bigger & bolder than before. From the eye-catching low grille to the sweeping aerodynamic lines, this sedan is as elegant as it is breathtaking.
There’s a raft of cutting edge features on the way. From follow-me-home headlights that remain lit for 30 seconds after parking your car, illuminating the path to your front door to rear-view cameras that assist you in reversing safely and easily. The clear colour image displayed on screen helps you spot hidden hazards and park with ease. Also on offer is Simple Intelligent Parking Assist (Simple IPA) Using ultrasonic sensors on the front side-bumper to identify a suitable parking space, once engaged, the system automatically performs the steering operations.

 Interior

Inside the new Corolla, you’re surrounded by the best. Carefully selected materials and premium finishes like the instrument panel with a combination of black & blue illuminated details stand out. The entire interior exudes peace of mind. It also offers class leading legroom and knee space especially to those seated in the back.
Discover the new Toyota Touch 2 multimedia systems. The new system offers a variety of entertainment options at your fingertips. Intuitive touch screen is your gateway to the system with radio, CD and USB port as well as AUX and iPod ports. You can make hands-free calls with Bluetooth or get directions with the navigation system.

Engines

With the Corolla 2014, there’s a powertrain choice to suit every need. From the entry level 1.3 litre Dual VVT-i with technology that optimises timing of the air intake and exhaust valves to match the engine’s needs, resulting in better performance and greater fuel economy, to the top of the range 1.8 CVT with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that combines the smoothness of an automatic transmission gearbox with the fuel economy of a manual transmission.
An all-new 1.4 litre D-4D diesel engine with common rail direct injection provides clean, responsive power. Environmentally friendly diesel technology injects fuel at high pressure for superior performance and a refined driving experience.

Other Features

Hover over the images to get descriptions of even more features on the all-new Corolla 2014. Some of these are optional, and may not be standard on every model. Information was taken from Toyota Europe’s website, of which our local South African Corolla will be based on.

There’s an old Chinese saying that goes like this: “May you live in interesting times.” This may either be a curse or be a good wish. With the advent of the All-New Toyota Corolla, life in South Africa is about to get a whole lot more interesting!

    • Hi Jivesh – sorry for the late reply.

Prices haven’t officially been confirmed yet. But the range should include a 1.3, 1.4 Diesel. 1.6 with CVT option, and 1.8 with CVT option. Launch date can be expected around FEB 2014.

Can you confirm that cruise control will again be available only on the top 1.8 exclusive models and not as an option on the other models?

    • Hi Derrick,

From the information available to us thus far – it seems only the 1.8 Exclusive & 1.8 Exclusive Multidrive S, will come standard with Cruise Control. Other than that, if you require it on another model, it can be added as an after-market accessory.

      Thanks!

      • Hi

I was looking at the new Corolla specification on the web and the brochure. Is it a mistake or will the 1.6 Sprinter not have the reverse monitor and the Display Audio/DVD as in the 1.6 Prestige?

        Regards

        • Hi Derrick,

Yes I have checked up on this – and you are quite correct. The Prestige Model comes with the Reverse Cam, And Display Touch Screen system, and not the Sprinter.

The pictures of the new corolla on your website shows that the car has daytime running lights. I have purchased the top of the range corolla I am disappointed that the car doesn’t have this feature, and is not available as an optional extra.

    • Hi Sagren,

Thanks for reaching out. This blog post was done quite some time before the local Corolla launch. That’s one of the reasons, we had this note at the end.
” Please note: this info is not final and some features, and characteristics may differ to our own local edition. ”
Unfortunately at this stage, our SA edition indeed does not come with Daytime Running Lights. Sorry, we as a dealer cannot do anything except provide feedback to Toyota. You are also welcome to raise your concerns with Toyota SA via their website, or through the dealer that you purchased your Corolla from.
      Thanks!
