A New Toyota Star-let is Born

We’re gonna miss our little champ. The Etios has certainly lived up to the billing – and brought smiles to everyone who drove it. But in the Starlet – it has a worthy successor.

In fact, the first model just arrived at our dealership and if I had to summarise the new Starlet in one word…IMPRESSIVE.

The impressing begins with opening the doors. One tug and it’s evident that this ain’t no Etios. It closes with a solid “thud”. The surprises continue inside. Push the sporty “Start” button and you’re surrounded by electronic gadgets that suddenly come to life.

For me, this is what caught my attention… Pastel-coloured blocks light up on the large touch-screen media system. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was the latest smartphone device instead of an in-car entertainment system. You’re prompted to link it to your phone, after which your favourite soundtracks are available to play. There’s also complimentary in-car wifi and, through the My Toyota smartphone app, a digital travel logbook to assist with filing tax refunds.

Driving Assist Technologies

No skimping in this department either.  Step into the Starlet and the premium feel of the car is reinforced. There’s cruise control dials on the steering, another set to answer phone calls and a personal favourite – auto climate-control aircon. Nice! Under the bonnet is a fuel-injected 1.4l engine that’s good for 68 kw’s and as expected, is light on fuel. (5.1 to 5.4 lts / 100 km).

Are you an auto driver? – Great news, you also get an automatic model in the Starlet range. On the safety front, driver and passenger airbags are standard. And on the Xr you’ll get additional side and curtain airbags.

Space in a Compact Frame

One of the more impressive feats achieved in designing the Starlet – is the space inside! From the front to the rear – the car is roomy and feels comfortable once seated.

The boot is deep and large, definitely room for a couple of Samsonites. Heck, fit on roof racks for the surfboard or kayak, and you have yourself a capable holiday companion.

Overall, I like this new Toyota hatchback. My hunch says Toyota has another winner on hand. Get ready to see them racing along you on the highway.

And if you’re interested in experiencing the car, just click the green button below and send the word, “Starlet” to our Whatsapp Assistant. You’ll find more info there and can even book your test drive.
